Office of the District Fishery Development Officer cum CEO of Fish Farmers’ Development agency is headquartered at the centre of Sivasgar town of Sivasagar district. Presently it has two subdivisions namely Sivasagar and Nazira in the district.Nazira Sub-division is headed by one sub-divisional Fishery development office that monitors the department activities, implementing different govt. schemes. Fishery Department of Sivasagar district has played a crucial role in promoting private fish farmers for production of table size fish, quality fish seed production, disseminate eco-friendly and updated technology, provided training on pisciculture, supply of inputs.
Schemes:
I. Schemes Name: - Construction of New Pond (Individual and Village Community Tanks) Under NABARD’s RIDF-XXIII Trenches, 2017-18.
- The beneficiaries who has availed similar assistance in last 5 years for the specific scheme from the department/other department are not eligible.
- Beneficiary should agree to work in group approach through Common Interest Group (CIG)/Fishery Interest Group (PIG), if suggested by Director of Fisheries, Assam.
II. Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY):

SUCCESS STORY OF PROGRESSIVE FISH FARMERS

Young fish farmer Mr. Uzzal kumar Gogoi, resident of Cherekapar khelua Gaon has beautifully done pisciculture that is commendable. Till now he has 6 nos of fish pond with water area 6 bigha 1 katha.In his words,deep interest in fish culture help him to develop at a large scale. As there is more profit in fish seed rearing compared to table size fish production, he took technical help and guidance from field officials and start focusing on investment in fish seed rearing.
In the very beginning, he has a say that fish farming is limited to only in katha, not even in bigha.Now, profit earned from fish culture has made it possible to extend fish farming on a large scale.
His annual turnover is around 5 lakhs of rupees from selling of fishes and fish seed too. This year he has sold lakh of fingerlings to nearby fish farmers within the district. Beside he has harvested 200 kg of tale size fishes this year with price of 200 kg per kg amounting 4 lakh of rupees. His wife also got a scheme of New seed rearing pond, 0.12 ha area and subsidy of around 49000 rupees under PMMSY for financial year 2020-21.

Under the purview of Mega Mission Society named as Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY,an initiative of Assam Government,Mr Dijen Neog,fish farmer has successfully installed a battery of 10 cages in Moridikhow beel with subsidy of 70 % as civil cost worth Rs 9.45 lakh in Sivasagar District. The total estimated project cost is 13.5 lakh for civil work and installation whereas 8.45 lakh for operational cost. He, a resident of Na Katai-Kahagaon, Gaurisagar Development Block, is very enthusiast and interested in fish culture. When he came to know about the ‘cage culture’ project from departmental source, he interacted with fishery official of Sivasagar fishery department and very soon started the project after necessary approval ad procedure laid by the govt. guidelines.
It is so good to say that he started working removal of weeds fully even the idle beel is infested with heavy weeds. He completed the cage culture project by the month of June, 2021 and also availed 70 % of 1st year operational cost (feed and seed) worth Rs 5.92 lakh.Durnig field visit and interaction, he briefed about stocking of costly local species like Kawoi ,Singhi and IMC species including pangassias.He stocked 15000 of singhi fry,30000 of hybrid koi etc and feed them with formulated feeds to get faster growth. This, one of the beautiful projects, is running smoothly in consultation with fishery officials that renders constant technical support. He fetched a good amount of profits and planning to extend the project with his own capital. He has harvested 300 kg of hybrid koi earning 1 lakh of profit within 3 months of culture period. He has a say, yet to harvest a lot, which he plans to harvest later will earn around 5 lakh of profits.
