Sivasagar Water Resource Division

About:

Sivasagar Water Resources Division (earlier it was known as Sivasagar E & D Division) of Water Resources Department (earlier it was known as Flood Control Department) was established in the year 1958.This Division has been looking after the flood and erosion management works of river Brahmaputra, DesangDikhow, Mitong, Jhanji, Dehing, Deroi, Demow, Dorika, etc. in Sivasagar and Charaideo district since then. The total length of embankmentsin its jurisdiction is 334.337 km. However, in the year 2022, a new Division has been createdin the CharaideoDistrict to look after the works of the area comprising Sonari and Mahmora LACs.

Citizen Services:

The main services provided by SivasagarW.R.  Division are as follows-

  1. Controlling of riverbank erosion
  2. Controllingof flood inundation
  3. Drainage development
  4. Land reclamation and river channelisation
  5. Collection of hydro -meteorological data

Projects & Schemes: 

Various schemes carried out under different heads of account by Sivasagar W. R. Division are -State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), State Owned Priority Development (SOPD), Uttoron (Signature), etc.

Sivasagar W. R. Division had undertaken 7 Nos. of schemes under SDRF during 2018-19 in the district with a sanctioned amount of Rs. 12.60 Crore (Twelve Crore and Sixty Lakh). All the schemes have been completed.

Similarly, 5 nos. of SDRF schemes had been undertaken for the year 2019-20 with a sanctioned amount of Rs. 708.00 Lakhs. Out of them 4 Nos. of schemes have already been completed. The fifth scheme got Administrative Approval late and has achieved physical progress of 43.96%.

 Further, 3 nos. of schemes have been sanctioned at MajaliaKonwargaon, AmlokhiDeosal and MetekaMajgaon with an amount of Rs. 610.00 Lakhs for the year 2020-21. Once these schemes are executed, it will benefit areas such as MajaliaKonwargaon, DehingiaKonwargaon, BorbaruahMaidam, Mohan Deodhai, AmlokhiDeosal, DigholPasi, Rongagoragaon, SilakutiMouza, MetekaMajgaon, KurulaKotia, Lai Mekuri, Amgurigaon etc. All the schemes are about to get completed soon.

 2 nos. of schemes had been taken up under NABARD under RIDF-XXV in this Division. One scheme namely “Protection to Jhanji Bund R/B from A. T. Road to Tamulichiga PWD Road at Bamungaon from the erosion of river Jhanji including R/S from Ch. 3000 m to Ch. 3750 m. (RIDF-XXV)” estimated amount being Rs. 211.00 Lakhs has been completion. Another scheme namely “Raising and strengthening to Demow bund L/B from Demow Chari-ali to Dhai-ali from Ch. 10350 m to end point Dhai-ali (Phase-I) (RIDF-XXV) amounting to Rs 190.00 Lakhs has achieved physical progress of 87% and will be completed soon this year.

Another scheme namely “Construction of new embankment on left bank of river Deroi from SeponSunpura Road to Deroimukh under Demow Revenue circle of Sivasagar District (Ph-I) under  “SIGNATURE (Uttoroan) SCHEME” amounting  to Rs. 1000.00 Lakhs, on Deroi river left bank has achieved physical progress of 92% and will be completed soon.

The Brahmaputra river bank from Dikhowmukh to Rupahimukh area where a number of villages existshas been facing active bank erosion. The 80th Special Technical Advisory Committee, Assam recommended articulated grout filled mattress technology for protection of the areas as pilot project. A project has already been taken up amounting to ` 11.83 Cr. for Rupahimukh area. It has achieved physical progress of 25% and likely to complete within this year.

Sivasagar W. R. Division falls under the jurisdiction of Sivasagar W. R. Circle, Sivasagar. At present, there are 3 (three) Nos. of Sub-divisions each headed by an Assistant Executive Engineer under Sivasagar W. R. Division. They are-
